“Banks pledge 40% of their resources to multinationals, 20% to derivatives, 13% to interbank loans and only 17% to the local economy (Mortier 2013)”.
Since the financial crisis, conventional institutions have suddenly decided to lend less, especially to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), reducing their exposure to risk. Therefore, SMEs do not have access to specialized and robust debt and equity capital markets and are more likely to have difficulty in obtaining external financing while the situation worsens during periods of crisis. Accordingly, high-risk listed SMEs often take advantage of new technologies from potential disruptors, even as they, led by effective management teams, struggle to secure growth capital.
As a result of these banking and finance challenges, UIG took the initiative to offer customized funding sources for listed SMEs with features such as no lengthy KYC and due diligence forms, non-intrusiveness, low documentation, almost no collateral and fast funding, even for operating cash flow, project financing, mergers and acquisitions, capital expenditures and specialized asset financing needs, etc.
Over the years, UIG has expanded its investment objectives and relentlessly executed its strategic plans because we understand that for many listed SMEs, access to alternative financing means the difference between success and failure.
